The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, has started the placement process for students graduating in 2021 and despite the changes forced by the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of domestic offers have significantly increased.
After two days of the virtual placement drive, the highest domestic package offered was Rs 70 lakh per year compared to Rs 52 lakh last year. “Close to 128 companies have participated in the campus placement drive in the first two days,” an IIT-G statement informed.
The placement process for Phase I at the institute started from December 1 in a completely virtual one. By the end of December 2, 486 companies had made offers to students. These include 133 pre-placement offers.
Four students have also been offered jobs by international firms. However, IIT Guwahati authorities are not revealing the details about these offers. According to sources in the institute, the international packages may have gone down a bit because of the economic slump worldwide. The highest offer during the placements last year was made by Microsoft amounting to $214,600 (Rs 1.5 crore) per annum.
In 2019, an overwhelming response had been received in terms of international offers which had doubled as compared to the previous season’s campus placement drive.
Companies like Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Adobe, Oracle, Walmart, Bajaj, American Express, Uber, Accenture Japan, MTX, PhonePe, Jaguar, Mercedes, JP Morgan, Amazon, SAP, Cisco, EXL, Intel, Sprinklr, Cleartax, Axis Bank, SocGen, Flipkart and many more have participated in the placement process this year.
